Lets show you the 3 main techniques for feeding your catfish.
Budding farmers, below are the 3 major ways you can feed you catfish.
Spot Feeding
You spot feed your fish by standing at a particular spot when feeding. This is not ideal for new stock as they wouldn't know where they are to go to for feeding.
It is a convenient way of feeding as it reduces the stress of moving from one side of the pond to the other.
Another advantage of spot feeding is that it gives the farmer the opportunity to observe the fish when they are eating. You can easily see the ones that might be ill or struggling to get some feed.
With spot feeding, you reduce food wastage because it is easy to see when the fish are full especially when you are using extruded (floating) feed.
Unlike broadcast feeding technique, competition and injury is high. Some fish might not even get to feed properly if they are not able to compete with others.
There is another type of spot feeding called multiple spot feeding. This is when multiple people feed the fish but in specific spots around the pond. This is used when the pond is large and one feeding spot is too small for the large number of fish.
Broadcast Feeding
Like the name suggests, this is when feed is spread all across the pond and your fish is able to feed from any part of the pond. It reduces competition and injury during feeding. This is also considered one of the best methods of feeding because it benefits the fish especially when they are newly introduced to a pond.
On the other hand, you loose the opportunity of studying your fish because they are spread all over the pond.
You also increase feed wastage which in turn leads to water pollution.
